I hope today is a great one for all the dads out there! Especially mine, of course 😉

On their final leg of The Last Hero tour, Alter Bridge made a stop in Birmingham, Alabama, for the first time in ten years. They played at Iron City with opening acts Sons of Texas and All That Remains. As an added bonus, I convinced my parents to go. It was their first Alter Bridge show.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control, I missed all of Sons of Texas and most of All That Remains, though I did catch the latter performing their version of “The Thunder Rolls.”
My parents and I found a spot in the balcony and anxiously awaited the start of Alter Bridge’s set. The venue was packed from wall to wall, and everywhere I looked I saw shirts from past tours, most prominent among them Blackbird and The Last Hero.
Just as the excitement boiled over and fans began chanting the band’s name, the lights dimmed. Drummer Scott Phillips settled behind his kit to a soundtrack of cheers. Vocalist/guitarist Myles Kennedy, guitarist Mark Tremonti, and bassist Brian Marshall took the stage without further ado, and we were off.
Alter Bridge opened with “Writing on the Wall” and tore through three more songs before Myles addressed the audience. Every word he spoke was met with ecstatic screams. At one point, the front man acknowledged how long it had been since they’d been to Alabama, and he promised they would never overlook us again.
Alter Bridge’s set spanned their entire career, hitting the high points from each album: “Open Your Eyes” from One Day Remains, “Ties That Bind” and the title track of Blackbird, “Isolation” (AB III), “Cry of Achilles” (Fortress), and “Crows on a Wire” off The Last Hero. Much to our joy, they did “Fortress,” which doesn’t often find its way into their shows. The acoustic portion consisted of Myles playing “Watch Over You” alone, then being joined by Mark for the highlight of my night, “In Loving Memory.” The evening came to a close with “Show Me a Leader” and “Rise Today.”
This was my fifth Alter Bridge show, and the quartet again not only met but surpassed my expectations. Musically brilliant and high on crowd participation, they delivered the kind of performance concert-goers dream about. I was on cloud 9. My mom, who has been listening to Alter Bridge since 2004, was over the moon. And my dad… Well, he doesn’t like a lot of recent artists/bands, but he seemed suitably impressed, especially when Mark and Myles had their guitar duel and showcased that they are, in fact, the two most talented men in the business.
For the fourth consecutive review, I am ending with a personal anecdote. My parents and I went to where the buses were parked and were soon graced by the presence of Mark, Myles, and Scott. Perhaps my favorite part of the night was Dad introducing himself to Mark. I added “That’s my dad,” and Mark smiled and said “Hi, Dad!” It was so endearing. The guitarist also found it humorous that my mom made him squat for a picture, attempting to get him closer to my height (I’m barely under 5′ and Mark is 6’1″). He did so without protest, and he is grinning in the photo.
I love this band. They are my happy place.

I have decided to post a random personal blog once a week, although I can’t guarantee I’ll remember or always have anything interesting to say…
For tonight, however, I do have a good story. This past Saturday, my dad and I went to see the Alabama Crimson Tide play.
I’m a huge college football fan, as are my parents. My dad has loved the Tide since forever, but he’s only been to one actual game, and an A-Day. This was my third game, thanks to the fact that my Jesse took me to watch them against Virginia Tech.
Anyway, we had a wonderful Saturday. We reached Tuscaloosa early and briefly tailgated with a couple of really nice strangers. The game was amazing. Our opponent was the Colorado State Rams. There’s clearly work to be done, but we won and I enjoyed doing the “Rammer Jammer” cheer.
Dad bought me a collector’s cup and a stuffed elephant, decorated with the Alabama “A,” which is too similar to the one for the Atlanta Braves if you ask me. I took some pictures, none worthy of this blog. Just Google “Bryant-Denny stadium.” It’s magnificent. The atmosphere is electric. And I totally fan-girled on the Walk of Champions. No shame!
As always, I hope this post finds you well. Be ready for better posts in October. Lol. (Although I’m sure there will be more talk of the Crimson Tide before the season is over.)
Okay, so my birthday was over two weeks ago. I debated whether or not to even post a blog, since I didn’t have a big extravagant celebration with a band. But then I thought to myself: “This year was better — in a way.”
On my actual birthday, I went to my best friends’ house. Tiffany, who is like a sister to me, fixed me breakfast for dinner. (She makes the best pancakes in the world.) She and her husband, Jerimy, gave me a Ghost tee-shirt, which I quickly changed into before settling back to watch that night’s episode of “Big Brother.”
The next day, I had the joy of seeing my Jesse. She lives in Georgia, and she left work that afternoon and drove straight to my house. My mom fed us tacos, then we watched movies until we fell asleep (The Houses October Built and Anna, for anyone wondering).
Jesse and I had adventures in Huntsville on Saturday, followed by Chinese food and ending our night at Tiffany and Jerimy’s. I was super stoked that three of my best friends were finally meeting, and they got along quite well. We sat outside, talking and catching sight of the occasional meteor from the shower taking place.
Sunday, Jesse and I literally did nothing except indulge in more movies and have a long conversation with my mom.
It may sound like a boring weekend, but for me, it was the perfect way to ring in my 30th year in this world. I missed my brother, and Heather and Chanin…and yes, it was weird not seeing Almost Kings. However, I had music, movies, three of my favorite people, my parents, and delicious food. What else does a girl really need?
Check out my fabulous gifts! The Marilyn Manson sweater was from my parents, the MM necklace was a present to myself, the Ghost shirt was from Tiff and Jerimy, and the other three items were from Jesse ❤

I had the most wonderful weekend, guys! Friday night I went to see Lynam (and got my copy of the new EP; keep an eye out for that review). They put on an amazing show, as always, and I shared this moment with David…
He cracks me up. 🙂
Saturday night, I crashed at my best friend’s house. We took her daughter trick-or-treating, then Ivy went to stay with her grandparents and we returned to the house to watch movies, eat junk food, and drink a little. I tried an old fashioned for the first time. It was quite delightful.
Also, I managed to sort out a situation that has been driving me crazy. I’ve reclaimed my happiness. All in all, I’d call this a successful weekend. And now for the pictures.
So as you can tell, I’ve been spending time with my BFF (as always) and relaxing with my cat. The bestie, her husband, and I went out exploring on my last off day; that’s where the pictures from Brushy Lake and Pine Torch Church came from.
Other than that I’ve just been working and waiting on a friend to get back from his exile to another state. He moved for a job. Insert sad face here…
Oh! And of course I’m counting the days to new music from Almost Kings and Lynam. 🙂
I saw Lynam this past Friday and I couldn’t have been happier. It had been about six months since my last show. They were awesome, as always, and after the show David let me listen to three songs–the final mixes–from the upcoming album, Bombshell. I am now even more excited for October than I already was.
Moving on…
My Labor Day was great, to be honest. I got to spend it with almost all of my favorite people: my brother Rick, my BFF Tiffany, her husband Jerimy, and my adorable niece Ivy. We had a cookout and Rick made grilled chicken that had been marinated in 151, lime, and sriracha sauce, as well as hamburgers, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, etc. The best part of the night had to be dancing around the living room with the tiny human…or watching her amusement when all of the adults started playing on an exercise ball. Lol.
Hope everyone else had a great holiday weekend!
No, today is not my birthday. Monday was, but I wasn’t anywhere near a computer so I couldn’t blog about my absolutely amazing weekend!!!!!
Friday night, we went to see Jude Buckingham and Almost Kings. The performances were epic, as always, and Boze pulled me onstage during “Five Foot Hurricane.” Almost Kings did a few new songs (and premiered one over the club’s PA before their set) and let me just say that I already know I’m going to love the album. I didn’t get my usual post-show time with the guys because I had apparently partied a little too hard during…
Anyway, the following night, my friends threw me a little party at their house. We had breakfast for dinner–lemon poppy seed waffles, red velvet waffles, bacon, blackberry sauce, a tropical fruit compote, ham rolls, and a drink that consisted of watermelon and Malibu rum. My parents ate with us and stayed long enough to check out my gifts, then they went home and the rest of us watched lame horror movies until bedtime.
It was truly a fantastic weekend, filled with most of my favorite people, music, laughter, and love. I couldn’t have wished for a better celebration. 🙂

I can’t believe Ivy is almost two now! That totally blows my mind!
So for those who don’t know, this beautiful little girl is my best friend’s first child. She knows me as “Aunt Mia” and in all honesty, I absolutely adore this kid. She loves having her picture taken (as you can see) and she understands the concept of a selfie…which is a bit sad, but that’s the world we live in.
^She was feeding me French fries. 🙂
^Tiny rawr face ❤
I’m not a photographer by any means, but I do love my camera! I simply felt like sharing some things that make my life what it is…and a couple of random selfies.
Just playing around with makeup and hair extensions. 🙂
