Weekly Focus: Asking Alexandria, Day Two

Asking Alexandria — “Someone, Somewhere,” from the album Reckless & Relentless (2011).

Album of the Week: Asking Alexandria’s self-titled

After a kick-ass concert last night that consisted of Blessthefall, Black Veil Brides, and Asking Alexandria, is it really a surprise that I would feature this album? Asking Alexandria’s self-titled record is heavily melodic from start to finish. My favorite tracks are “When the Lights Come On,” “Hopelessly Hopeful,” and “Under Denver.”

Let’s Talk Covers (American Satan edition)

1. The Relentless: “Personal Jesus” (Depeche Mode cover)

2. The Relentless: “Nights in White Satin” (The Moody Blues cover)

3. The Relentless: “Hey Hey, My My” (Neil Young/Crazy Horse cover)

What I’m Listening To: Andy Black

I wasn’t overly impressed with “Ribcage” or “We Don’t Have to Dance,” so yeah, it took me a while to sit down and listen to The Shadow Side.

Overall, I enjoyed the album. It was certainly a departure from Black Veil Brides (always a plus when you decide to do a side project). The Shadow Side will likely find its way into my CD player many more times.

Though there are multiple high points, my absolute favorite track is “Put the Gun Down.” Check it out:

Album of the Week: Black Veil Brides’ Vale

I figured since I’m seeing them soon, I should honor Black Veil Brides this week. With Vale as their most recent release, and the record I’ve been listening to a lot over the last few days, I chose it as my album of the week.

Let’s Talk Covers (Pt. 34)

1. Talking Heads: “Take Me to the River” (Al Green cover)

2. Alanis Morissette: “Norwegian Wood” (The Beatles cover)

3. Rasputina: “Wish You Were Here” (Pink Floyd cover)
