The Mostly Music 2025 Playlist, Pt. 3 (Updated 3/16/25)

Welcome to March! I hope daylight savings time didn’t ruin your week like it did mine. (If y’all don’t mess with that BS where you live, lucky you.)

Anyway, time change aside, this month seems to be moving ahead much more rapidly than January or February. On the bright side, we have a really killer soundtrack for the ride!

Here are the recent releases that have been added since February 28th! And don’t forget to visit parts one and two, if you haven’t already. You could just discover your new favorite song!

The Mostly Music 2025 Playlist, Pt. 1 (Updated 1/31/25)

This is the second, and final, playlist update for January. I have already begun compiling my Top 50 of 2025 – I think this year is going to be difficult to narrow down… (I say that every year, but I already have 6 contenders and it’s not even February. If that happens every month, my life is going to be a challenge come December. Ha ha!)

Here are the tracks that have been added to the playlist since January 14th. You can view the list in its entirety here.

Bands You Should Know: The Space Turtles

Defining themselves as an “indie rock/funk/grunge band,” The Space Turtles hail from Long Island, New York. They are fairly new on the scene, but with their firing-on-all-cylinders determination, The Space Turtles are rapidly gaining momentum. The trio implements a variety of influences and musical backgrounds, which means you’ll hear things that are reminiscent of bands such as Weezer and Nirvana, but also Red Hot Chili Peppers, a touch of Nine Inch Nails, 311, and more!

The Space Turtles released their Tough Call EP in late 2022 and have been booking shows throughout 2023.

My favorite track from the band is “Ghost Plans,” which is the second song on the aforementioned Tough Call EP.

And, just in time for Halloween, The Space Turtles dropped “Spooky Shit,” a fun and funky song that honors all those things we love about October!

The Space Turtles Address Artificial Intelligence in New Song “Unplug”

The advances – and dangers – of AI have been a hot topic for years, but with the introduction of Snapchat’s My AI and all the AI-generated images on social media lately, this is a subject that now hits close to home for all of us. Indie grunge rockers The Space Turtles are no exception.

In their most recent single, “Unplug,” this Long Island based band writes about the extremes of our AI fascination and how it’s going off the rails. Reality has become twisted. In fact, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to discern between what’s real and what’s not. What do The Space Turtles recommend? Unplug, and live the simple life.

“We are living a lie/Dear God/Zeroes and ones, what have we done?/I need to unplug…”

“Unplug” is a warning wrapped in a funky, grungy melody and delivered with the frustration of our endless obsession with the digital world. Check it out on your favorite streaming service, or listen on YouTube below!
