Asteroid named after Freddie Mercury in honor of singer’s 70th birthday — Consequence of Sound

Today would have been Freddie Mercury’s 70th birthday. In commemoration, the International Astronomical Union has named an asteroid in honor of the Queen singer. According to the Guardian, “Freddiemercury” is a 3.5km-wide asteroid found on the other side of Mars. As it never comes closer to 350 million kilometres to Earth, it poses no immediate danger…

Rest in Peace, Glenn Frey and Dale Griffin

I’m sure you’ve all heard about the passing of Glenn Frey, guitarist/vocalist and co-founding member of The Eagles. He had multiple health issues, including rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, and pneumonia. From what I read, it was the intestinal issues that troubled him the most. He was 67.

I feel lucky that I saw The Eagles in 2002. It was an amazing show that I will never forget. ❤

What you may not know is that we also lost Dale Griffin, the drummer for Mott the Hoople. He, too, was 67 and died due to complications of Alzheimer’s. He actually passed on Sunday, one week after David Bowie…who wrote Mott the Hoople’s biggest hit, “All the Young Dudes.”

In non-music news, Bob Denver, the star of “Gilligan’s Island,” died recently as well.

WTF, 2016?

More Sad News

Also, Giorgio Gomelsky, a man whose career included managing The Yardbirds and The Rolling Stones, passed away yesterday — January 13th. Read more here.

Guys…I can’t lie. 2016 is kicking off on a sour note. Rest in peace to those we’ve lost. 😦

In Loving Memory of David Bowie

I can’t even begin to explain how heartbroken I am upon hearing that David Bowie lost his battle with cancer at the age of 69. So I won’t waste any more words. Instead, I will listen to his music and watch The Labyrinth and invite all of you to do the same.

RIP Wayne Static

I have been a fan of Static-X for over a decade. The very first song I heard by them was “Black and White.” I remember buying Machine at Wal-Mart and blasting that, along with “Cold” and “Get to the Gone,” on repeat. When Shadow Zone was released, my best friend and I were obsessed with the video for “The Only.” Someone gave me a copy of Wisconsin Death Trip because I wouldn’t shut up about Static-X and he didn’t care for it that much anyway. I was so excited when I saw the video for “It’s Going Down” by the X-Ecutioners, and there was Wayne…

Needless to say, when I heard the news that he’d passed away, I was devastated. It was made even worse by the fact that I had the chance to see him earlier this year and I couldn’t go. I have been listening to Static-X a lot over the past couple of days in honor of Wayne. Rock in peace, Wayne Static. You will be missed.
