Oh. My. God.
*Dead*

I’ve been waiting to post about this, wanting the situation resolved before I said anything.
On March 2nd, the Velcro Pygmies announced that their bassist, Jacob “Sandman” Sanders, and his older brother, Jeremiah, had gone missing while fishing on the Tennessee River. After a grueling and suspenseful thirteen days, during which the entire Pyg family awaited news with bated breath, a body was found on the 15th..and soon identified as 24-year-old Jacob.
Still, as the band reminded all of those involved, it wasn’t going to be truly over until Jeremiah was found as well.
Today that moment has come.
I’m not even going to pretend to understand how their loved ones feel. I will simply say this: I met Jacob once in 2014 when I carried my parents to their first Pygmies show. He was sweet and obviously put his heart and soul into his craft. He chatted with my mom and me for a long time following their set, never acting as if there was something he’d rather be doing or as though he was bored, impatient, etc. He left quite an impression on both me and my mom. From what I’ve seen and read, that was just the kind of person he was. He touched lives, and the world feels much more empty without his presence — and Jeremiah’s, I know.
If you could, take a second out of your day to offer a prayer or positive vibes to those who are grieving over these losses.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Mom, Jacob, Me, and Chase
I know I’ve been MIA, for the most part. My personal life took over. But that’s over now (and believe me, it’s for the best), so I’m going to be more active. I’ve been simply scheduling posts because I haven’t been able to sign in every day. Now, however, I intend to get back to my original plans for this blog.
Coming soon:
-a review of Lynam’s latest release, Bombshell
-a review of Almost Kings’ new album, The Re-Introduction
-a list of my top ten favorite current vocalists
-a list of my top ten favorite “guilty pleasures”
I have also started a Twitter that is meant to be an extension of this blog (@Dixie_Rocker). I’ve been checking out all the bands who follow me/ask me to. There will be a post promoting those artists as well.
I hope this blog finds all of you happy and healthy!
I had the most wonderful weekend, guys! Friday night I went to see Lynam (and got my copy of the new EP; keep an eye out for that review). They put on an amazing show, as always, and I shared this moment with David…
He cracks me up. 🙂
Saturday night, I crashed at my best friend’s house. We took her daughter trick-or-treating, then Ivy went to stay with her grandparents and we returned to the house to watch movies, eat junk food, and drink a little. I tried an old fashioned for the first time. It was quite delightful.
Also, I managed to sort out a situation that has been driving me crazy. I’ve reclaimed my happiness. All in all, I’d call this a successful weekend. And now for the pictures.
So as you can tell, I’ve been spending time with my BFF (as always) and relaxing with my cat. The bestie, her husband, and I went out exploring on my last off day; that’s where the pictures from Brushy Lake and Pine Torch Church came from.
Other than that I’ve just been working and waiting on a friend to get back from his exile to another state. He moved for a job. Insert sad face here…
Oh! And of course I’m counting the days to new music from Almost Kings and Lynam. 🙂
I saw Lynam this past Friday and I couldn’t have been happier. It had been about six months since my last show. They were awesome, as always, and after the show David let me listen to three songs–the final mixes–from the upcoming album, Bombshell. I am now even more excited for October than I already was.
Moving on…
My Labor Day was great, to be honest. I got to spend it with almost all of my favorite people: my brother Rick, my BFF Tiffany, her husband Jerimy, and my adorable niece Ivy. We had a cookout and Rick made grilled chicken that had been marinated in 151, lime, and sriracha sauce, as well as hamburgers, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, etc. The best part of the night had to be dancing around the living room with the tiny human…or watching her amusement when all of the adults started playing on an exercise ball. Lol.
Hope everyone else had a great holiday weekend!
Guys, I am so excited because college football kicks off this weekend! (See what I did there? Ha!)
If you’ve been following me for any amount of time, then you know I’m a huge Alabama Crimson Tide fan. I apologize in advance for how many of my blogs are going to reference my team/football in general for the next five-ish months. I can’t help it; I’m addicted. It happens when you live in the South…and it seems the great state of Alabama, in particular.
Anyway, one of the bands I love from Birmingham has a song all about the Tide, entitled “Elephant Fight.” Check it out, as well as the other videos I’ve posted below. I’m just getting myself pumped up for the Alabama/Wisconsin game on Saturday. 🙂 Roll Tide!
No, today is not my birthday. Monday was, but I wasn’t anywhere near a computer so I couldn’t blog about my absolutely amazing weekend!!!!!
Friday night, we went to see Jude Buckingham and Almost Kings. The performances were epic, as always, and Boze pulled me onstage during “Five Foot Hurricane.” Almost Kings did a few new songs (and premiered one over the club’s PA before their set) and let me just say that I already know I’m going to love the album. I didn’t get my usual post-show time with the guys because I had apparently partied a little too hard during…
Anyway, the following night, my friends threw me a little party at their house. We had breakfast for dinner–lemon poppy seed waffles, red velvet waffles, bacon, blackberry sauce, a tropical fruit compote, ham rolls, and a drink that consisted of watermelon and Malibu rum. My parents ate with us and stayed long enough to check out my gifts, then they went home and the rest of us watched lame horror movies until bedtime.
It was truly a fantastic weekend, filled with most of my favorite people, music, laughter, and love. I couldn’t have wished for a better celebration. 🙂

Next week, I am going to celebrate my birthday with Almost Kings. This is becoming a tradition. I have now spent three absolutely amazing birthdays with those four crazy and wonderful guys from Atlanta. I decided for my throwback post this week I would share photos from those nights–and a video that is simultaneously embarrassing and epic 🙂
When I turned 26…

When I turned 27…

And the aforementioned video
I can’t believe Ivy is almost two now! That totally blows my mind!
So for those who don’t know, this beautiful little girl is my best friend’s first child. She knows me as “Aunt Mia” and in all honesty, I absolutely adore this kid. She loves having her picture taken (as you can see) and she understands the concept of a selfie…which is a bit sad, but that’s the world we live in.
^She was feeding me French fries. 🙂
^Tiny rawr face ❤
